Saltwater Pools by Paul Camp
Here’s why everyone in Dothan, Enterprise and Ozark, Alabama, loves saltwater pools:
Swimming in a saltwater pool is much like taking a shower in soft water. Generally, when people swim in a non-chlorine generator pool (a pool with no salt water in it) they feel like their skin dries quicker when they get out of the pool. They may feel and/or see a whitish residue – chlorine flaking – on their skin.
In a saltwater pool (one with a chlorine generator) the water feels smooth… your skin feels smooth… and many people feel more refreshed.
Plus, ocean water has a salt content of around 35,000 parts per million (“ppm”). Humans have a salt taste threshold of around 3,500 ppm. And most chlorine generators require a salt content of 2500 – 6000 ppm in the pool. That’s why your saltwater pool won’t taste salty.
Saltwater pools are NOT chlorine-free pools. A saltwater pool utilizes a chlorine generator to keep your pool water clean and healthy.
Chlorine generators have been around for decades, and as technology and materials continue to improve, chlorine generators continue to improve.
A chlorine generator’s main function is to produce chlorine for the pool so that you do not have to buy it, store it or handle it. And that’s a big advantage for most pool owners.
Most chlorine generators produce chlorine constantly when the pump is running. That keeps an enough chlorine in the pool to help prevent algae from growing.
The secret is keeping the chlorine generator cell free of calcium and mineral deposits.
The cell itself is made up of various metals and it must be maintained so it can continue to make chlorine.
Through the process of electrolysis, water passing over the chlorine generator cell produces chlorine that is instantaneously transformed into Hypochlorous acid – which is the active sanitizer. This is what kills algae and other harmful stuff in the water. Its effectiveness is totally dependent on balanced water conditions and the proper PH.
So, with a saltwater system, you must still maintain your water balance properly, but you don’t have to handle as many nasty chemicals to keep your water sparkling clean.
Why Everyone Loves Salt Water Pools… Saltwater pools don’t require nearly the maintenance of yesterday’s pools… Plus, your swimming pool water never has that old chlorine smell or taste!
